1. What airport do we fly into?

Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) is the closest. San Jose (SJO) is 4-5 hours by car or 1 hour by plane.

2. What airlines service Costa Rica?

Continental direct from Houston, American from DFW or via Miami, Delta via Atlanta. Also Frontier and United........ Sansa Airlines or Nature Air for domestic flights within Costa Rica. Nosara is the closest airport to Garza

3. How do we get from the airport to the lodge?

We can pick you up with our shuttle van @ $130 one-way from Liberia or $250 from San Jose including all passengers - or you can rent a car. Most agencies are represented near the airport. Poas, Budget, Economy, Hertz to name a few.

4. Do we need a rent car?

Most clients do not rent a car. We can always have a car delivered should you decide you need one after you're here. Should you want to go somewhere for the day or a few hours, we can arrange a car and driver for a nominal charge. If you do rent a car be sure to include the daily insurance.

5. What do we do about food and drink?

We offer food service served family style at reasonable rates. $5 breakfast, $8 lunch, & $15 dinners. There are 2 restaurants in Garza and several restaurants in nearby Nosara. Your cabina has a refrigerator for snacks and drinks. There are 2 domestic beers - Imperial and Pilsen. Imported beers include Corona, Miller lite, Budwieser & Heineken at a premium price of course. Most liquors are readily available. There is a small grocery in Garza for basics.

6. Is the water safe to drink?

Costa Rica is known for its pure water. However, bottled water is available almost everywhere and we always include bottled water on our shuttles and fishing trips.

7. What other activities beside fishing are in the area?

Nosara offers a new canopy tour (zip line). There is also horseback riding, turtle tours at Ostional Beach, hiking, & surfing. We have a decent paperback library and ladies please note there is not much shopping.

8. What type of clothing do we need to bring?

For men - shorts, t-shirts, sandals, tennis shoes, swim suit, Columbia style fishing shirts ..................................................... For women - shorts, t-shirts, sandals, tennis shoes, light blouse, swim suits ........................................................................... For men & women - hats, sunscreen, don't forget your prescription drugs.

9. Do we need a passport and or visa?

You must have a valid passport that will not expire within 90 days after your trip. We recommend you make copies of all your travel documents and store in a separate place other than your carry-on luggage, in case they are lost or stolen - they will be much easier replaced. US citizens do not need a visa to enter Costa Rica.

10. Is there a departure tax in Costa Rica?

Yes...$26 per person payable in dollars, colones, or any major credit card. We recommend you pay when you arrive to avoid long lines when departing.

11. Do we need to exchange our dollars?

No....Dollars are accepted everywhere. It is best to have some 10's and 20's because some places won't accept 50's or 100's. You will get change in colones. Credit cards are accepted at many places as well but you will usually pay an additional 13% - 15% for sales tax. Don't worry about getting cheated if you don't know the current exchange rate. Costa Rican businesses are honest & hardworking.

12. Seasickness?

Costa Rica is know for its calm waters. However some people are just plain susceptible and should take the various medications available for prevention. Patches or dramamine are recommended.

13. Tipping?

Most restaurants include 10% for service. If they don't they will write it on your bill "Tips not included". Tips are not included for your fishing trips and all tips go to the mate or mates. They are not mandatory but 10% - 20% of your charter fee is customary. Let the service be your guide.
